Steamers are nostalgic, romantic and fascinating! No question about it. But I'm finally ready to admit that I'm a "Closet Diesophile." I enjoy the infinite variety, the colors, the sounds...all of it. Once in a while, however, I find that I get confused about whether a particular model was still being delivered at the same time as another model. "Could that railroad have been receiving GP30's at the same time it was receiving SD35's?" (The answer is "no.")

If you ever find yourself wondering about such pressing questions, or if you'd just like a handy reference as to which models were produced when, THIS IS IT! Read on.

On a mere two pages, I've summarized the most popular prototype models of the last sixty years -- ALCO, Baldwin, EMD, Fairbanks-Morse, GE. Generally, if a model saw proudction of over 100 units, it appears here. If you find a glaring omission, a typo, or just feel that I may have slighted your personal favorite, Email me and I'll see if anything can be done.

Even more diesel info (more models, more details) available from Rick Blanchard's Diesel Chronology. It's a great piece of work and definitely worth a gander!
